This time in Buffalo NY. By this time you all know about the tragic end of flight 3407 and the 50 souls that were lost. It break my heart everytime this happens, and causes me to ponder myself everytime I fly ......

Whenever there is a tragedy however, no asshole is ever killed. In the days and weeks after such horrific events, we hear stories about every person killed, and how full of life, and how wonderful they were. No one ever comes out and says "yea that Fritz guy was a real asshole ... I'm glad his sorry ass got killed. It's just a shame all those other people had to be around that dick before they died too!"

It's like the idiots who are so miserable they have to take as many people out of the world with them. Yes, they might be labeled as "disturbed" (NO! Really?) or as "having problems" (wow ... you don't say?) .. but most of the time you hear this wonderful phrase:

"Oh ... they were so quite. Always polite and always kept to themselves." In my entire life time I have never heard someone step up to the mic and say "Boy I saw THAT coming a mile away. Homeboy was a ticking time bomb just ready to go off. Oh .. and he sure was an asshole too!"

So, I ask again ..... Why is this? Are we as human just programed to remember the very best of someone even if they were a complete douchebag? Or is it something deeper. Does God really only "take the very best?" If that's the case, I call Shenanigans!!! C'mon God .. how bout taking out a planeload of prisoners at the very least .... hell, after everything I've seen the past few years, I'd even settle for Harry Reid's private jet!

Ok ok .. I know ... that's not nice .... But he is an asshole.

Just one of the things I have pondered this week. Come to think of it, maybe I should stay off planes myself for awhile.

DVD

Patriotic Hatred

I have noticed more and more email coming into my inbox lately that’s … well … hateful. The most disturbing part of this is that these emails are using “Patriotism” as the context for that hatred …..

……. If nothing more, this gave the Republican Party and their talk show mouthpieces, like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Jim Quinn a lifetime supply of sound bits to use against Mr. Kerry everytime he said or did something they thought could be used for political cannon fodder. This bodes well for them because, as we all know, Senator Kerry is just of of the many public servants who suffer from that indomitable affliction that us common folks know as "Foot in Mouth Disease."

As the Republican party throws their recent temper tantrum over the fact that John Kerry hates every single American serving their country, and wants them all to die of AIDS, they have conveniently forgotten their cries of "bias" against the mass media. Although there were outlets that either didn't even carry the story, put the story on page 18, or glossed over the situation completely, they all did one thing in common. They did indeed leave the full context of his comments somewhere on the editing room floor. Which party do you suppose this serves?

I believe that John Kerry purposely called American Soldiers stupid about as much as I believe that the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to win the Super Bowl again this year. It's obvious to anyone who wishes to take the time to sort through the media, the Democratic Party, and the Republican Party's constant prevarication of reality. Mr. Kerry, simply stated, said something stupid. Had it not been 1 week before what both parties see as a life and death campaign, this story would have lasted one, maybe two news cycles at best.

With that said, I think it was completely inappropriate for a Senator of the United States to imply that the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces was somehow an uneducated moron who is "stuck in Iraq" because of some intellectual reason, or lack thereof. Irrespective of your thoughts on Iraq, we are at war, and I think a little discretion needs to be brought back into politics in this country. The debate on the origins and execution of this conflict can be waged in the writings of history, but for now, statements like these do little more but to embolden those who are eager to lie in green pastures with their 72 virgins.

Mr Kerry should really take some time and think before he attempts to take cheap shots at the President of the United States. One might discover that in reality, from an educational statistics standpoint, his GPA was actually lower than Mr. Bush's.

To me, telling a roomful of students that if they don't study and do well in school they might wind up being the President of the United States some day is not very wise.

After all, it seems we already have enough stupid people in Washington.

Please ... just kill yourself FIRST

*WARNING: Explicit language*

The human race is pissing me off.

In the past week, on three different occasions, some asshole decided that before they were going to end their miserable existence on this earth, it would be a good idea to murder some innocent children who did nothing wrong other than go to school that day.

Who are these sick fuckers?

And why can’t they just kill their own sorry ass BEFORE they take and innocent life AND destroy the lives of all those who loved said innocent?

So .. to you sorry ass pieces of shit mother fucking worthless cock suckers out there who are on the verge of snapping …. type='text'>Supporting our Troops?

Everyone who knows me, knows I am a patriot …

So please keep that in mind during this rant, because it is not about whether or not I love my country, nor is it a condemnation of our military…….

But ….

I am absolutely sick and tired of receiving emails telling me that I need to say 50 Our Fathers for our troops, and then I need to send it to everyone in my address book.

STOP IT ALREADY … OK?

I understand we are at war. I understand that our troops are in harms way. I understand that the pulse of a nation directly affects the morale of a soldier.

I know this because once upon a time, I WAS one of those soldiers in the countless photos that flood my inbox everyday.

I was one of those soldiers holding a child in shock at the unrelenting reality of unrest in the world.

I was one of those soldiers stealing a moment with my own personal Band of Brothers to ask God for comfort, knowledge, resolve, and protection.

If you REALLY want to do something good for our soldiers, then instead of sitting in front of your computer hitting the FORWARD then SEND buttons 20 times every day, DO SOMETHING FOR GOD’S SAKE!!!

Send a care package overseas.
Join a support group that helps the families of fallen soldiers
Volunteer for the American Veterans
Say a prayer and/or light a candle

Do something … anything … sitting in front you’re your PC forwarding emails to those of us who ALREADY get it ISN’T doing something. As a matter of fact, it’s a really lame, pathetic attempt to try and convince the rest of the world that you really care about the troops ….

Honoring American soldiers takes more effort than just slapping a magnet on your car and forwarding a bunch of poorly designed emails.

….. And if you can’t take the time to do something, nor if you want to, then please … send the damned emails to the Westboro Baptist Church, or John Murtha, or Cindy Sheehan.

Send them to someone who DOESN’T seem to get it … Because I already do.

Invasion

Ok … lemme see if I got this down right ……

Your country sucks ass so you risk your life to illegally cross OUR border.

Once here, you use MY tax money.

Then … you take “jobs that Americans won’t do.” (I still just LOVE that lie)

Then you all get together to TRY to “shut down America” by protesting …..

You scream how evil America is, flip us the finger, and wave the Mexican flag …

So …. Not to be a complete and utter pessimist ….. but things are definitely going haywire … BOO ……

Which leads me to my topic for today.

The American Soldier

I write this coming from the unique perspective .. having been an American soldier for the better part of 8 years ….. most of that time on active duty ….. stationed and deployed to many different parts of the world. On many different missions … My time was from 1988 to 1996 ….

The Army and Soldiers are much different in the world today .. I know this. But some things are the same … I’m sure of it ..

Many people (mostly on the “right”) put soldiers up on this incredibly high pedestal. They view these defenders of the American way as nothing more than heroes …. Which … I have to admit … they are.

It takes a special person to throw yourself into harms way for a way of life.

But more than that, soldiers are HUMAN. It seems that many overlook this fact and then when things go askew, wrong, or even horribly wrong …. Everyone is shocked. Glenn Beck was talking about the movie Three Kings today. Three Kings is about three American soldiers who hatch a plot to steal millions of dollars worth of gold during Operation Desert Storm. Glenn was lamenting on the fact that it portrays American soldiers in a bad light …….. perhaps it does.

Not all American soldiers are fine upstanding citizens who’s purpose to join the military was to “Protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.” Some, I hate to tell you this .. are nothing less than complete and utter scumbags … I know ….. I served with thousands of soldiers … and I did run into a couple of scumbags.

But I can tell you this … I was truly only a couple out of the thousands I knew ….. For the most part, the people I met while serving my country were some of the best, most upstanding people I have ever met .. and I would have fought alongside and even died if need be for them .. and for you.

I guess my point is ….. give soldiers a break …… honor them … respect them …. But don’t see them as super heroes …. See them as human. As men and women who do a very very difficult job …. And volunteered to do that.

That way …. When we ….. I mean when they make a mistake ……. They don’t get slammed so hard …..

Being a soldier is hard enough without a countries expectations for perfection heaped upon their shoulders ….

…. I know ….. More than I have the time to list

We live in a country where, despite our differences and our problems, we can freely live our lives in relative peace. Where we can chase our dreams. Where we have to worry about eating too much … not starving to death. A country where we can speak our minds and embrace our differences without fear of having our doors kicked in at night.

On of my favorite Pink Floyd songs says it best:

A place to stay
enough to eat
somewhere old heroes shuffle safely down the street
where you can speak out loud about your doubts and fears
and what’s more …..
no one ever disappears you never hear their “standard issue”
kicking in your door
you can relax on both sides of the tracks
and maniacs … don’t blow holes in bandsmen by remote control
and everyone has recourse to the law
and no one kills the children anymore

We’re not nieve though. We realize that the world has become a dangerous place. We all know someone … or know someone who knows someone who is at this very moment fighting the forces of tyranny around the globe.

We are thankful for them.

So when we celebrate thanksgiving this year … In between the turkey and stuffing. Somewhere between the wine and pumpkin pie. Let’s all steal a moment for ourselves ….. To feel TRULY grateful …..

… for who we are ....all we have … and where we’re going.

25 signs

Ok ……. type='text'>Email drives me crazy

Email drives me crazy …….

… or is it the people that drive me crazy .. using email as the vehicle to get me there??

So there you are …. Working your day away, when all of a sudden there it is …. A new email message has just entered your world. As you open up the message your mind is pre-occupied with the mundane activities of daily life. You read the subject line and it usually reads something like “spooky” or “cool” or “check this out.”

So you open it up. Now, sometimes this email comes in the form of a link or an attachment .. but there’s no difference .. they’re both as evil as the next. So you read the message body and it usually says something to the effect of “hey .. check this out .. it’s really weird. This is a commercial from a car company. When they filmed it there was this weird mist on the film that they could identify. All they know is that at one time, there was a bad accident and someone was killed on the road they filmed it and if you look real close you can see the spirit” and so on and so forth.

Now before I continue, let me say in hind sight that I should know better than to open one of these stupid (expletive) emails, but hey .. I’m human … curiosity … you know.

Anyway ….. so you turn up your speakers and put your nose against the screen searching for this mysterious apparition …. When all of a sudden either something slimy or some little kid with black soulless eyes suddenly pops in front of you accompanied by some hell screech which is about 5 decibels louder than it needs to be.

Your reaction is simple …. Your heart stops beating, you shit your pants, and you make some sort of noise that sounds like a cross between a kitten that just got stepped on and a hooker who didn’t get paid.

I swear to god the next person that send me an email like this is going to get beat in the farging head with a hammer!!

While I’m on this rant let me just say that the picture of the new Pope holding up a beer and a pretzel for communion? NOT funny so STOP STOP STOP sending it to me!!!

An if you send me an email which says I can see my license on the internet, and I go there and it’s a picture of a monkey? Well, just know you are a monkey’s ASS!!

…. With that I shall sit back and wait for your emails

Time is a funny thing

Time is a funny thing ……

I went to a high school football game the other night. It was the first high school football game I had been to in over 20 years ….. Sidney Crosby.

Now, I really don’t want this to be a Sidney Crosby bashing rant. I really don’t know enough about the kid other than what is continuously shoved down my throat on a daily basis. But enough is enough people! Give the poor kid a friggin BREAK! Everytime you turn on the TV here it’s Sidney Crosby this, Sidney Crosby that, Sidney Crosby practiced today, Sidney Crosby ate Captain Crunch for breakfast this morning, Sidney Crosby wiped his ass, Sidney Crosby, Sidney Crosby, Sidney FRICKIN Crosby!

WOW!

Not withstanding the fact that the Penguins have YET to win a game this year (granted, there have only been 4), this kind of media frenzy can’t be good. I can’t imagine being a fresh faced newbie to the NHL to begin with. The pressure must be daunting. Heap a giant spoonful of media mayhem comparing you to none other than Mario Lemiuex and Wayne Gretzky … and I’m sorry folks … but you have a recipe for disaster cooking in the coke ovens of Pittsburgh as I write this.

I have a better idea … why not just paint a big giant bulls-eye right over that number 87 that screams “HEY … COME BREAK ME IN HALF TO PROVE A POINT”

I know we all need heroes, and I know for a fact that the city of Pittsburgh needs a few because to be quite honest, it’s been awhile since we have had more than one. But heroes are born from the merit of their struggles ….. not because the news media wraps them up in a nice little package and presents them to us with a bow.

Ben Rothlesburger helped the Steelers to win 15 games last year.

Let Crosby grow and become a great player. Don’t try to force me to love the kid. If he is as good as you say he is …. Then I and the rest of Pittsburgh will embrace him the way that we do with all our sports heroes …..

With a raised Iron City and a hearty M-HA!

You do the math

When Hurricane Katrina pummeled the Gulf Coast region of the United States, I became acutely aware of certain comments made by some obscure mullahs in the Middle East. Unbeknownst to me, it seemed that the hurricane was not an act of nature. Nope … It was Allah’s hand punishing the infidels.

At last count, the death toll from Katrina hovered somewhere around the thousand soul mark. Quite sad no matter how you look at it.

Then I started to think about the tsunami last year, the earthquake in Iran back in 2003, and the earthquake that just happened in Pakistan, India, and Kashmir.

The tsunami killed upwards of 120,000 people

The earthquake in Iran killed 15,000 + people

The earthquake in Pakistan killed how many? About 18,000?

So .. At least I'm not out west where they just got a thousand feet of snow. But fear not kiddies .. the snow will find it's way here. It always does ;-P

The powerball tomorrow is 240 million. That's $240,000,000. I can't even imagine that kind of duckage. I think maybe I'll buy 5 tickets just because ..... Not because I think I will win but because someone has to win so I might as well be the winner.

I feel the need to be bankrupt in three years ..... might as well live like a king to get there

Yes ..
